The Regional Specialty Hospital at Veracruz receives children daily from the states of Veracruz, Puebla, and Oaxaca in the pediatric ward to receive medical and hospital care for serious illnesses and sometimes very long treatments. These children come from very low-income families and used to sleep on the hospital stairs, in bus terminals, and in nearby gardens. This is why «Amigos de Jaime en Acción,» better known as AJA, was founded. Supported by the first graduating class of IPADE, AJA was legally established in 2008 and obtained authorization to issue tax-deductible receipts.

In 2009, a house was rented to serve as a shelter, and in 2010, the house was purchased for the shelter. Renovations began in December of the same year and were completed in March 2011, restoring services. In 2012, AJA was chosen as a beneficiary of Movimiento Azteca, allowing for the expansion of all facilities, doubling their capacity to meet the demand.
